Buttercup the chicken

As an extension of the urban local food or "locavore" movement, the popularity of backyard chickens has grown tremendously. Backyard fowl can serve as pets and as a source of eggs and meat.

The Backyard Poultry Primer was co-authored by Dr. Teresa Morishita, Professor of Poultry Medicine and Food Safety and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Western University of Health Sciences. Dr. Morishita completed a residency in avian/poultry medicine at the University of California at Davis and she is a Diplomate of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians.
