Caring Hands

The Award's namesake, Dr. T.J. Lafeber, was recognized as a pioneer in companion bird medicine and the human-companion bird bond. His concern for the health of his avian patients led him to develop innovative medical treatments, diagnostic techniques, and nutritionally balanced foods.

Each Award recipient receives a bronze cast of Dr. T.J. Lafeber's hands cupping a budgie (shown right).

Award recipients are selected by an AAV committee of peers and must meet a stringent list of criteria.
